5-Star Theatricals 2026 Season

Four decades ago, a grand idea was conceived when Alain Boubil, Jean-Marc Natel, and Claude-Michel Schönberg created the original musical script for the now-famous musical, Les Misérables (previously in French). Stemming from Victor Hugo's 1862 novel of the same name, the plot of Les Mis was transformed into a live stage adaptation as a show only sung from start to finish, which was monumental in that decade.

After an initial showing in France, there was evidently great clamor to make a more accessible version, and when Cameron Macikintosh listened to the score, he was so inspired and announced he was going to produce an English version while working with the Royal Shakespeare Company and Herbert Kretzmer, who invented the new song numbers. The English staging of the musical at first premiered with a two-month period at the Barbican Centre, but because of its impressive success and larger audience with the English version, it rapidly transferred to West End's Palace Theatre in due time, a more bustling and superior venue, and ran for 19 years. The musical then moved once again to another venue, the Queen's Theatre (which one day renovated and renamed to The Sondheim Theatre in 2019), and continues to run up until today. Adding together all its runs since its creation all those years ago, Les Misérables is as it happens, the longest-running stage play so far in this generation.

With almost 4 decades in London's West End solely and not even listing its productions in international cities, including and definitely not limited to its well-received Broadway seasons, it is with certainty that this global hit endures and is excellent in the viewpoint of the show's audiences. The plot and the rich and touching soundtrack, which revolves around redemption, sacrifice, and unrequited love, always brings each viewer to tears due to the apparent heart behind each song and act staged. The musical has become so famous that the show has been adapted to motion pictures repeatedly and received very positively even on a separate medium.

This coming October's season of Les Mis carries it to California, where the Ovation Award-winning 5-Star Theatricals will present their Broadway-caliber production featuring an ensemble cast of local and professional performers in the classic roles of Jean Valjean, Javert, Fantine, Cosette, Marius, Éponine, and others. The show will be running from October 9-18, 2026, with a matinee performance on Sunday 11th October 2026 at 1:00 PM, in Fred Kavli Theatre At Bank Of America Performing Arts Center, Thousand Oaks.
