The Nutcracker is a ballet performance in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1892. The show was commissioned by theater director Ivan Vsevolozhsky after the success of another show. Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov led the original choreography. Legendary composer Pyotr Illyich Tchaikovsky was commissioned to provide the score. The two-act ballet’s premise is based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s 1816 story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. In 1927, the first production outside Russia was commissioned. Seven years later, The Nutcracker production was held in England, followed by a New York production in 1940. During the ‘60s, The Nutcracker’s popularity grew in North America and became an annual holiday tradition. Today, The Nutcracker is performed by hundreds of ballet companies worldwide, and each production has its own rendition and alternate endings.
The Pacific Festival Ballet Company (PFB) has produced top-tier ballet shows since 1992. The company was founded by Kim Maselli, Joyce Hurley, and Lorie Sorense. Their goal was to bring ballet to Conejo Valley in Thousand Oaks, California. The founders’ shared passion for the arts and dance has led to the cultivation of world-class performers. Each season, three major productions are presented, and each show highlights the talent of the company’s homegrown dancers. Aside from local talent, PFB has also featured guest performers from top ballet companies, such as New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, and more.
This holiday season, PFB presents its most awaited classical ballet performance, The Nutcracker. This show is guaranteed to be their best one this year. So don’t miss it and secure your passes now before it’s too late! Tickets to Pacific Festival Ballet’s The Nutcracker are now available!
